چکیده
Introduction Gastrointestinal symptom-specific anxiety and somatisation have both been associated with higher symptom severity in patients irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, the relationship between these two factors IBS has not explored fully. In addition, performance of instrument that measures gastrointestinal anxiety, visceral sensitivity index (VSI), examined a UK population. We conducted cross-sectional survey to examine issues. Methods measured levels using VSI, via patient health questionnaire-12 (PHQ-12), as well adult subjects from community Rome IV-defined IBS. carried out exploratory factor analysis on prior subsequent analyses, establish its structure. multiple regression determine demographic features, different somatisation, severity. Results 811 individuals provided complete data. The mean age was 47.4 years, 85.9% were female. Factor VSI revealed three-factor structure, accounting for 47% variance. Irritable bowel syndrome: new insights into symptom mechanisms and advances in treatment
Despite being one of the most common conditions leading to gastroenterological referral, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is poorly understood. However, recent years have seen major advances. These include new understanding of the role of both inflammation and altered microbiota as well as the impact of dietary intolerances as illuminated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which has thrown new ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Written Expression on Severity of Gastrointestinal Symptoms in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Background & Aims: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders that significantly affects patients' quality of life. This study aimed to determine the effect of written expression on the severity of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with IBS. Materials & Methods: This clinical trial study was conducted in 2019 on 71 patients with IBS who were referr...
متن کاملInfluence of the Serotonin Transporter 5HTTLPR Polymorphism on Symptom Severity in Irritable Bowel Syndrome
5HTTLPR polymorphism of serotonin transporter yields short (S) and long (L) alleles. SS and LS genotypes are associated with reduced expression of serotonin transporter. This cross-sectional study investigated the association of 5HTTLPR with symptom severity of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Patients with IBS (Rome III) and healthy controls were included. Genomic DNA was extracted from saliva,...

METHODS In this randomized triple-blind trial, adult IBS volunteers who were recruited according to Rome III criteria received 109 or 1010 colony-forming units of NCFM or placebo daily for 12 wk. IBS Symptom Severity Score (IBS-SSS), which constituted the primar...
